DIY Felt Valentines-  Conversation Heart Pins

DIY Felt Valentines-  Conversation Heart Pins

Those little conversation hearts are in my book, probably one of the worst candies around. Pretty chalky and not at all fun to eat.

They do have great sayings on them that are quite funny and sometimes downright weird. Something about me, is that I really love Valentines Day! Mainly because I love heart shaped things and any excuse to buy candy.

Each year, I often sew up a few hearts and put them in all of KC’s gifts each year (we now have a collection) or I have a bunch of paper hearts that I slip into his bag as he leaves. I also really like to make valentines for my friends and co workers each year,  so I thought what a fun idea to make valentine’s that emulated these candies but were also pins! That way you can give all your friends or your kids friends a perfect little valentine that is also functional! Now I will introduce this DIY where I will show you how to embroider on and sew your own conversation heart, that is way better than the real version!

Step One: First use the template above and trace onto the tracing paper- us this as a guide to cut out two felt hearts for each conversation heart you want to make.

Step Two: Now, lay the tracing paper pattern on top of the heart and hold in place. Using three strands of the red embroidery floss begin to embroider the words through the tracing paper and felt. This may seem weird, but I promise it works perfectly, just be careful not to pull too hard.

Step Three: Next, once you are done stitching, carefully tear away the tracing paper without tugging at the stitches. Remember that no conversation heart words are perfectly placed, so if your words are a little off centered that is okay!

Step Four: Now, take the heart that you did not embroider on and flip it over to the back side. You are now going to secure your pin in place Using the white embroidery floss and a satin stitch looping around the secured side of the pin.

Step Five: Next, place the pin heart behind the embroidered on, pin face out. Stitch around the outside edge using three strands of white embroidery floss and a running stitch. As you go, add a bit of poly fill to make the heart puff up.

Step Six: If you want to turn these into valentines, print out this attachment and pin the heart through the white center of the box. No need to put names on them, just hand them out as you see fit!

That is it! A conversation heart that looks just good enough to eat. They look so cute and will make the perfect valentine for all your friends and loved ones. These are also so simple to make that you can probably make enough for everyone you need during 1 or 2 episodes of Cheer on Netflix. Everyone who you give them too will be so excited to have a little piece of your heart, and who doesn't love flair?!
