Time Out Tuesday: Meditative Embroidery/ French Knots

I do not embroider very much these days, though it is something that I enjoy a bit. I am not super proficient at it, so it makes it harder for me to fully dive into a project knowing that it is going to take me quite a bit of time to complete. That being said, I try to keep them pretty small and also try to use the french knot stitch to help me in the moment/ more mindful. I also like french knots because they add such amazing texture to the pieces make them POP from the hoop. I also like the repetition of the french knot, it allows for the process to be much more meditative

Trying Out Macrame

When it comes to learning a new skill of any kind, I like to “Tim Gunn” the experience and Make It Work. Seriously, even if I am making a pizza or something and it isn’t working out, I tell myself to make it work, to make the best of it and figure it out. I feel that mindset often comes into my art work because there are of course messes that I constantly make. I really try not to let them upset me or let them discourage me from engaging in a process that could end up being super fun and awesome!

More Than Weaving: Latch Hooking

There is more out there in the weaving world, that is very similar to weaving but is not exactly weaving. Most of the time, they are marketed as kids crafts but when you get the hang of it, you can make things way cooler than what is marketed. I mean let’s think of it, most of us learned to weave as kids, but just on a pot holder loom! The craft that I am thinking of here is latch hooking. You remember those latch hook kits in your local craft store of a smiley face, I know you do. I bet they still sell it, so if you don’t remember- go check it out.

Time Out Tuesday: Pinch Pots

One of my newer found loves is air dry clay! If you have never played with it before, let me tell you something, it is life changing and amazing! What I love most about it, is that is is actually like ~real ~ clay and the only difference is the kiln. I wanted to make a small bowl, AKA a pinch pot for all of my yarn trimmings. One of my dreams is to collect enough yarn over the next few months to get Ashley of Loom Denim spin my scraps into yarn!

Warping An Embroidery Hoop Circle Loom

here are plenty of ways to go about circle weaving, but my favorite way to go about it is to use an embroidery hoop! They are pretty cheap and when you put the outer hoop over the weaving it creates this nice wooden border that is super nice looking. You also could wrap the inner hoop, that you warp with yarn and add some fun texture that way.

mini weavings

I decided that it would be the most fun and exciting to do a DIY where I weave with one of my favorite tools ever, the LOOME tool! I found them on Instagram a few years back around the holidays and immediately asked someone to buy me one for Christmas. This tool is multi- functional, but what I was most excited for, was the fact that it was small and compact and I could weave and pom pom on the go! Most mini weaving tools out there the weaving has to stay on the loom, but not with LOOME. It is just as easy to take off as it is to warp.

DIY American Flag Pom Poms

With this year being not much of a celebration of the fourth of July, with beaches being closed and fireworks being cancelled, it calls for a bit of a craft celebration! Last year I worked on fourth of July and I wanted to make the day more fun for my clients so I wrote up a pattern for an American Flag Pom Pom. They were such a hit and a cute little way to be festive, pass the time and engage in a perfect coping skill. The best of all the worlds!

DIY Flower Pom Pom

I really love making pom poms. I have a few posts on here about poms. You can find how to make them with a pom pom maker here, and with cardboard here. I get really excited by pom poms because they are just so cute and really exciting when you make one. Everyone who I have ever spoken to who makes pom poms gets excited every time they create a perfectly cylindrical yarn ball. I love trying different patterns, and even making a few of my own up!

Shades of Green Tie Dye

Anyway, when it comes to tie dye you are just hoping on a wing and a prayer that it does not turn out ugly and that you can actually wear these items one day. I think now it is trying to figure out how to make something with tie dye and not look like a 3rd grader. That is why I chose just one color and different variations of that color. I love how subtle it all is, not be TOO green. I hope this post makes you want to try tie dying out!

A Dining Room For More Than Just Dining

This is our first apartment with a dining room, or as some call it a “bonus room.” This room flows perfectly off the living room and is big enough to fit a table as well as some other fun things. I knew moving in here that the space was going to have to be multi- functional and serve more than just the purpose of dining. Not only did I want each of us to have a space for our activities, but also I needed a home work space. Our dining room quickly turned into the place we eat, play and work!

What's In My Makeup/ Skincare Bags

We all know that “maskne” is all the rage these days and no one is happy about it. I personally really enjoy wearing a mask. I have a bunch with super fun patterns and colors and I feel like they totally complete my outfit sometimes. It is a plus that they keep people safe too! My skin on the other hand HATES wearing a mask and has actually been very upset with me lately.
