I wanted to just do a quick little blog post about my true love for weaving and how it became one of my favorite mindful activities. With my switching the focus of the blog to being more focused on fiber arts I thought I would share with you really how all this happened!
Read MoreThis is our first apartment with a dining room, or as some call it a “bonus room.” This room flows perfectly off the living room and is big enough to fit a table as well as some other fun things. I knew moving in here that the space was going to have to be multi- functional and serve more than just the purpose of dining. Not only did I want each of us to have a space for our activities, but also I needed a home work space. Our dining room quickly turned into the place we eat, play and work!
Read MoreWe all know that “maskne” is all the rage these days and no one is happy about it. I personally really enjoy wearing a mask. I have a bunch with super fun patterns and colors and I feel like they totally complete my outfit sometimes. It is a plus that they keep people safe too! My skin on the other hand HATES wearing a mask and has actually been very upset with me lately.
Read MoreEver since quarantine happened and KC and I have been home together a lot more often we are working and not spending time together, so we made a pact that we would watch a movie every single night during quarantine to 1. Watch more of what was out there and not just the newest “features”, 2. To spend more time together actually watching something and not only half watching/ half working or being on our phones, 3. To put a routine in place and 4. To pass the time of quarantine a bit better.
Read Moren this apartment, this is the first time that we have a separate living space and bedroom space, which has been something new and fun to navigate for us, especially because now there is no bed in our living room and vice versa. The fact that we also moved during a pandemic and quarantine, meant that we were going to be spending A LOT of time at home and we wanted to make this living room space the most comfortable and inviting.
Read MoreThe best part of this night stand is actually how easy it is to build. The build took a quarter of the time that it took to prep the wood, so keep in mind that if you want to keep the wood raw, this table will literally take you no time. Also good to know, you need no power tools because you can get all the wood cut at your local Home Depot and you can use sandpaper to hand sand but you also could get a power sander for forty dollars. Let’s get this show on the road!
Read MoreI have been pretty open about my experience with buying furniture during this pandemic. It has been basically non- existent, but I am not upset about it. This whole situation has allowed me to be able to really lean into the love that I have to make and build furniture and also build up my collection of tools! Currently have a power sander and a saw. Hopeful to get a jigsaw soon as well. With all of this in mind, getting furniture for a new home has been quite difficult, so I decided to build it myself. I started with some shelves, the original plan was to have two shelves, but the wood I used was a little thin so I needed to layer the shelves to make it be the thickness that I actually needed.
Read MoreWhen you make as much art and as many crafts as I do, having a perfectly organized art supply storage is a must. To be honest, there is truly nothing worse than looking for supplies and not being able to find them. Also, a pet peeve of mine is not having easy access to all materials. In our last apartment, my supplies were in a long hallway and though there was plenty of space, there was just truly not enough for what I needed and I could not access it all.
Read MoreWhen we first looked at this apartment, one of the biggest selling points was the kitchen, how large and bright it was and the fact that it had a full walk in pantry. Not just a cabinet, but a large closet sized pantry with extra prep space and a window. It was full of shelves that went floor to ceiling and I knew that I just had to have this apartment as a result of it. One of the things I wanted to make sure of though, was that if we were going to have this amazing patry, that everything and I meant everything had to be perfectly organized. Everything had to have a spot and things had to look and bright and inviting as the rest of the space.
Read MoreMoving, which is like getting a tooth pulled or driving a long distance with a small child asking, “are we there yet”- is something that all people must face. It is sometimes unpleasant, never any fun, but usually leads to a positive outcome. Naturally, with moving, the success of the endeavor, really depends on avoiding moving mistakes and planning ahead to make the moving process as smooth as possible!
Read MoreKC and I are moving next month or hopefully June depending on the state of the world. Yes, we have already put the money down on the apartment, but worried that if we go into lock down what would happen! Anyway we felt that because we need to save some money to get some new furniture, especially this fun storage desk, that we would follow DIY Playbooks Frugal February guidelines to do it in April. You can find out more about what Frugal February is, click here!
Read MoreSomething that I have recently gotten into, but I am no expert, is taking care of my skin. To be honest when I was younger I always had really great skin. I used to tell people it was because I sweat out all my toxins so I had no pimples (who knows, could be true!) As I have gotten older, started different forms of birth control and continued sweating, my skin has completely changed.
Read MoreOne thing that has been really important to me my whole life has been clothes. I almost went to fashion design school at FIT in New York City and I was completely obsessed with all things fashion. I watched Project Runway religiously (i still do), I stayed up late at night to sew clothes that I would wear to school the next day and I was obsessed with looking “fashionable.”
Read MoreIn today’s day and age we are constantly moving so quickly. We are used to things loading faster, making quick dating decisions and driving fast towards a red light. Most of the time people are not even paying attention to what they are doing, they are just on auto pilot and doing it. There is a constant “missing out” that is happening day by day because people are not always paying attention.
Read MoreHappy Wednesday! This week I will be spending plenty of time in the studio making art and getting on the right track for this residency. I cannot believe January went so fast but also felt like it moved like a snail. I am welcoming February with open arms!
Read MoreHappy Wednesday! This week is quite exciting because we are pet sitting a cat! His name is Fig and he is totally still a baby but not a kitten, at least I don’t think. He is very fun snugly, loves going under our bed and enjoys eating club crackers which is great because I do too! We are excited to have a pet for the week because KC and I have never had a pet together before!
Read MoreAs this week marks the end of January, I feel like “wow what a yeah, huh?” and wait for someone to deadpan respond with “It’s February” You know like that moment in 30 Rock.
Read MoreHappy Wednesday! This week is a very exciting week for me and KC. We are indeed that couple that celebrates every month of dating, even after its been 7 years! It can get exhausting to celebrate every month with something extravagant so most of the time we just like to keep it low key. We did not do anything really crazy for our 7 year anniversary so we are thinking that we may go get some pizza and go bowling. Bowling is something we love more than anything and we like to go as often as we can. We also may go see a movie because we have not seen a movie in quite some time and there are some good ones out now. I am excited to just have some extra special time in the week with KC because we do not always get that with the work week.
Read MoreI am looking forward to spending some quality sibling time together. We will be in the suburbs of New York and so there is not always a lot to do. We plan to go see a movie, watch our younger brother play basketball and maybe go get our nails done! There will also be time spent with the whole family re- celebrating Christmas at my house. I am very excited to wear my Christmas pajamas again!
Read MoreThis past weekend I started my first Artist Residency ever. I graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2015 where I studied painting and dabbled a bit in fiber arts. I Immediately went to Grad School where a Lesley University where I studied Art Therapy and kind of lost myself as an artist.
